The Ballad of Austin Greer

by Conrad Jones, May 2003

Austin’s mom brought him to karate from afar …
That is, until Austin was old enough to drive a car.

He got taller and taller until he made a lot of shade …
And he got sharper, too, hence the nickname “Blade.”

His strength was awesome in his punches and kicks …
He liked to kick around the old Black Belts, particularly Rick.

He’s still young, and knowledge he does crave …
He learned a lot about karate and life from Black Belt Dave.

His training partner pushed him hard, and he learned a lot about himself …
You’re going to be pushed with a partner like “Raging Bull” Jeff.

With his attitude and respect, he would go all the way, the higher belts felt …
And to no one’s surprise, he earned his Black Belt.

But the days of high school are fading like the sun …
Austin is headed off to the college of Union.

To Austin’s parents: Thanks for sharing him over the years …
He is smart and strong, so have no fears!

You are a super young man, and the future is bright …
Come see us when you’re in town … I’ll leave on a light!
