| What getting a Black Belt means to me: I collapse slowly to the floor, clutching a part of a black cloth in my hands. The rest of it is tied around my waist. Sweat and tears stream down my face as I glance to the cheering crowd and see my parents. They are telling me that I am finished and that it is over and I passed. I can’t help but think that they are wrong. This isn’t a finale; it is a culmination. This is what a Black Belt means to me. It is the accomplishment of an enormous goal. It will mean to me that I can do it. I have perseverance and I can accomplish goals. A Black Belt, to me, means that someone has real spirit. That they have given everything they have to show that they deserve something. This is what a Black Belt means to me, that I have sacrificed everything in order to deserve it, and that I have the will to accomplish my goals. When my karate training helps me: My karate training helps me every day. I am in ROTC at Franklin High School, and it is a very frustrating position. I am the Battalion Commander and some of my subordinates are very disagreeable. Being in karate has taught me self-control and, believe me, I need it in that class. | ||
