Promotions: Shodan 1/15/05
Family Members: Kathryn Morey (mother), Michael Morey (father), Kyle Morey (brother), Megan Morey (sister), Sasha (dog)
Favorite Foods: If you put almost anything in front of me, I will eat it!
Hobbies: Games workshop stuff, videogames, reading, writing
Favorite Sports Teams: I don’t watch too many sports, so I don’t have any favorite teams
What getting a Black Belt means to me: I collapse slowly to the floor, clutching a part of a black cloth in my hands. The rest of it is tied around my waist. Sweat and tears stream down my face as I glance to the cheering crowd and see my parents. They are telling me that I am finished and that it is over and I passed. I can’t help but think that they are wrong. This isn’t a finale; it is a culmination. This is what a Black Belt means to me. It is the accomplishment of an enormous goal. It will mean to me that I can do it. I have perseverance and I can accomplish goals. A Black Belt, to me, means that someone has real spirit. That they have given everything they have to show that they deserve something. This is what a Black Belt means to me, that I have sacrificed everything in order to deserve it, and that I have the will to accomplish my goals. When my karate training helps me: My karate training helps me every day. I am in ROTC at Franklin High School, and it is a very frustrating position. I am the Battalion Commander and some of my subordinates are very disagreeable. Being in karate has taught me self-control and, believe me, I need it in that class.

Ode to Chris Morey

by Conrad Jones, January 2005

He started karate years ago, in the fall …
No one knew back then he would be 6 feet 12 inches tall!

Michael, Kyle, Meghan and Katherine have supported Chris to be all he can be …
His leadership skills are unquestionable, that’s why he’s a leader of the ROTC.

His katas look so good that it’s not even fair …
Most of us old guys are also jealous of his hair.

He has helped teach karate classes to many who aspire …
His patience, skills and talent have helped set their sights much higher.

Chris’s manners and work ethic are definitely first rate …
With his hair, brains and attitude, he won’t have trouble getting a date.

He will head off to college soon; no doubt he will stand out in a crowd.
Chris, your family and all of us here at karate are very, very proud.
