What a Black Belt means to me: Over 18 years have passed since I, David Vespie, walked into the dojo as an eager young kid looking for martial arts training. During that time, I took time off from my training to work and go to school. Since then I have graduated from MTSU (Middle Tennessee State University) with a B.S. in Mass Communications, with an emphasis in photography and a minor in performance.

Since completing my degree and starting my career as a freelance photographer, I have started back with my martial arts training years later, in hopes to complete what I started so long ago.

I have worked extremely hard in the past several months to bring forth my victory to achieve my Black Belt. There is no easy road to achieving such a belt of honor and pride. I only hope as I grow as a Black Belt that I become as great of an instructor as those that teach at Conrad Jones Karate. I owe it to them for the reason I have made it up to this point, and hope that I can continue to make them proud as I grow with the school.

Thank you for helping me to achieve one more goal.

What are the traits that make a good person? What is the secret recipe?
No, not "the Colonel's"...but those traits are very real in David Vespie.

Always eager to help in any way he can...
I'm sure glad to have him as a friend.

He has spent years off from karate, and has achieved many other goals,
Now he's reach the top in martial arts: the Black Belt fold.

Have you ever seen anyone more nervous, or sweat any more?
That's because he's determined to do well, with every salty pore.

Technology keeps moving, and every new gadget, David has,
He is an inspiration for us all, to not live in the past.

Congrats, David! We are lucky to have you at the school!
I hope one day, if we're lucky, we all can be as cool.
