Ode to John Burnum

by Conrad Jones, May 2004

When John Burnum stretches, everyone is awed …
And usually there comes up comparison with Jean-Claude.

He started karate years ago, not afraid to take chances.
Now he’s a Black Belt, with incredible stances!

Perseverance, control and discipline … he sure has plenty.
These character traits, I’m sure, came from his parents, Joann and Denny.

John has reached a big goal, just like he once said …
And I am sure in John’s life, many more goals are ahead.

So thanks, John, for bringing so much to this school.
In my eyes, you are definitely really cool!

John Burnum

Making it to 2nd Degree Black Belt is very, very few …
So for a young guy like John to make it is very, very cool!

It’s a symbol of outstanding perseverance and incredible discipline, if the truth be told.
It’s also a sign that he is getting old.

Not only is John greatly improving physically, so is his brain!
Sometimes he uses words that makes my brain strain!

Without a doubt, John, you are one of the most respectful and knowledgeable young martial artists I have known.
The credit has to go to Joann and Denny at home.

Thanks for your help and attitude through all of these years.
I’ve been so lucky to get to watch you grow … it almost brings me some tears.
