Kata: Neseishi

The '24 Steps kata'. This was called Nijushiho by Funakoshi Sensei, and its origins are from Shuri-Te, Ankichi Aragaki.

Note: Because of its overwhelming use in Wado techniques, if only one hand is mentioned, the other hand is performing a back hikite. Also, unless otherwise mentioned, all jun-tsukis are at the chudan (solar plexus) level.

Opening

  1. Rei. Masuba dachi.
  2. Yoi. Heiko dachi.
  3. Hajime.

Body

  1. Step back right, left kake shotei, right hikite. left zenkutsa dachi.
  2. Staying lead-left, slip forward, right gyaku-tsuki, left hirate onto right bicep. left zenkutsa dachi.
  3. Staying lead-left, slip forward, left tae uke, right hikite. left zenkutsa dachi.
  4. Mawata left 180°, right tomo-tsuki. left sanchi dachi.
  5. Morote soto uke. left sagi-ashi dachi.
  6. Left nodo tsukami. sheeko dachi -outgoing right.
  7. Right yoko geri, left kake tsuki. sheeko dachi.
  8. Right nodo tsukami. sheeko dachi -outgoing left.
  9. Left yoko geri, right kake tsuki. sheeko dachi.
  10. Step to left back corner, right tomo-tsuki. right zenkutsa dachi.
  11. Mawata left 225° to front left corner, with right judan haito. left zenkusta dachi.
  12. Step up together, left rising haishu, to match existing judan haito. heisoku dachi.
  13. Step back left, right gedan tsuki, left tomo tsuki. chinto dachi.
  14. Mawata left 180°, nodo tsukami. Left mahanmi no neeko ashi dachi.
  15. Step around, right judan ago empi. right chinto dachi.
  16. Chudan gyakutsuki. tate seisan dachi.
  17. Mawata left 135° to front right corner, nodo tsukami. Left mahanmi no neeko ashi dachi.
  18. Step around, right judan ago empi. right chinto dachi.
  19. Chudan gyakutsuki. tate seisan dachi.
  20. Mawata left 180° to back right corner, nodo tsukami. Left mahanmi no neeko ashi dachi.
  21. Step around, right judan ago empi. right chinto dachi.
  22. Chudan gyakutsuki. tate seisan dachi.
  23. Mawata left 45°, left tomo-tsuki. Pause.
  24. Left sanchin dachi. Pause. masuba dachi.

Closing

  1. Yame. Pull into masuba dachi, rotating into migi tomo-tsuki.
